CoLT is an interdisciplinary
group based at the University of Plymouth. It is engaged in research,
training, commercial and consultancy activity with a strong focus
on the communication and learning technology that supports these
activities. It consists of members with links throughout the University
and the wider academic and electronic communities.
The
number and diversity of CoLT members allows the group to pull together
a team with the appropriate blend of experience and expertise for
each research, development or commercial contract. In this way,
CoLT can offer a complete package of supported products and services.

Upon graduating
from Leeds University in 1976, Tim followed a career in law, becoming
a Barrister. He then undertook a change of track becoming a farmer
for ten years. He now combines the two fields by teaching and researching
in the area of employment, agricultural and land based law. Tim
has recently returned to the bar part time as a Door Tenant at Rougemont
Chambers, Exeter. Tim works with CoLT on the legal issues surrounding
the use of the Internet by small businesses.

David Gadd

Dave is a researcher/sociologist
by trade and has spent most of his time in the past looking at health
issues, statistics and IT. He joined the CoLT group in May 1998
to become involved the the ADAPT/CUCOL project and lead the "Using
the Internet for Business" project. His main interests then
and now are working with small businesses to make their Internet
ventures more successful. Dave also does most of the cgi-scripting
for the group and is responsible for the day to day maintenance
and security of the PILL server. To date he has conducted over 40
classroom based training courses for small businesses and has compiled
a wide variety of Internet training courses on-line.

Tasha Haslam

Tasha is studying
for a BSc (Hons) degree in Media Lab Arts at the University of Plymouth.
She is working as part of the CoLT team on her placement year, helping
to design and construct training websites, such as WEGEMT and Learning
to Learn On-line.
Anne McDermott

Anne spent 12 years
working in local government. She left to study full-time at Polytechnic
South West and obtained a BSc (Hons) Psychology in 1992. She then
trained as a mental health nurse, becoming an RMN in October 1996.
Her interest in education and professional development was sparked
by the issues it was raising in the world of nursing and when offered
the opportunity to investigate Internet based delivery of CPD for
marine engineers she became a postgraduate research student. The
three year project, which is due to finish in December 2001, is
jointly supported by the Institute of Marine Studies, University
of Plymouth and the Institute of Marine Engineers. Research interests
include Internet learning and continuing professional development

After reading economics
and politics at the University of Central Lancashire he went on
to a masters degree in Employment Studies at University College
Cardiff. He spent five years working in industry, during which time
he achieved membership status within the Institute of Personnel
and Development. He is involved in People Management and Information
Technology teaching. Mark, along with Neil Witt formed the CoLT
group in 1997 to facilitate cross faculty research and development
working at the University.

Robert
Williams

Since graduating
from Nottingham University in 1975, Rob has worked as a consultant
for MAFF before developing a career in lecturing in business management
relating to S.M.E's in the rural domain. Particular interests include
accounting, finance, business planning and strategic management
with a particular emphasis on the strategic issues associated with
the emerging digital technologies. Rob is currently working on a
project to develop the use of these technologies to enhance the
support of flexible learning and training in business management
and related areas.
Dr Neil Witt

Dr Witt is a Senior
Lecturer in Navigation Systems at the Institute of Marine Studies,
University of Plymouth. His main areas of interest are marine communication
systems, GMDSS, guidance and tracking systems, marine information
systems and marine education and training. This experience builds
on a research career (investigating guidance systems for integrated
bridge systems and the marine applications of artificial intelligence)
and time spent as a professional yacht crew and boat builder.
